I fell in love with music through many years of dancing the 5 rhythms. That’s when I started to wake up to the delicious fact that music can bring us ‘home’ to ourselves. Back into the body and the heart, re-sensitising us to both the joys and the pains of our human existence.
As with five rhythms, the music I play moves through different energies: subtle and powerful, wild and passionate, playful, soulful and still – beats from all over the world intricately woven together to support your movement.
What I look for is music with heart and soul. By that I mean it has what I experience as a particular quality of aliveness, a sense of the singer and musicians really feeling the music, loving what they’re doing, totally in it, really giving of themselves to it.
And I love music you just can’t help dancing to…. the sort that picks you up and carries you into the dance without you quite knowing how you got there. Dancey. Irresistable. Music that loves the body and that the body loves. Delicious!
Just to give you an idea….. world/fusion, tribal, drum, trance, dance, sufi, belly, devotional, classical, latino, african, celtic, pop, blues, jazz, reggae, gospel, dancehall, rock, meditative, avant-garde, shamanic, qawalii, trip hop, funk, scandinavian, lo-fi, country, chant, mantras, chill-out, dub, disco, medieval, gypsy…the list goes on….
